In 1854 enterprising brothers, David and James Fowler emigrated to Australia from Kilrenny, Scotland via steamship. The brothers arrived stocked with tea and flour supplies to start their new life trading from a modest store. The brothers then chose the regal Lion brand to represent the finest groceries, the business quickly gained a first-class reputation.


Trusted by generations of Australians, the Lion brand is a heritage brand and household favourite. Since Lions first days in operation, Lion has provided the finest quality ingredients and recipes that consistently deliver delicious baking results.

For well over 150 years the enchanting port city of Fremantle has been the home of the Lion brand and its owner Anchor Foods. Anchor Foods and Lion continues to build on its fine traditions of integrity and reliability, bringing to you trusted grocery foods.
